Recap of the European Bamboo Expo 2025
Dortmund, May 26, 2025 – The European Bamboo Expo 2025 took place on May 23 and 24 in Dortmund and impressed with a strong mix of innovation, exchange, and expertise. This year’s focus was on how the potential of bamboo can be purposefully harnessed in the European timber and construction industries. Universities from across Germany presented their latest research findings, particularly on the structural properties of both European and imported bamboo.
The expo once again highlighted the important role bamboo plays in a sustainable and climate-friendly economy. Whether as a building material, in furniture production, or in the textile or paper industries – bamboo is increasingly establishing itself as a versatile and future-proof resource.
Thanks to its remarkable ability to absorb CO₂, bamboo makes a vital contribution to the fight against climate change. It also regenerates soils, strengthens regional economic cycles, and is playing an increasingly prominent role in European strategies for climate-friendly land use.
From a global perspective, bamboo also proves its worth: in many countries of the Global South, it creates employment, promotes sustainable development, and enables the emergence of new, environmentally friendly industries – a true “superplant” with global impact.
In 2025, the expo once again brought together professionals from architecture, engineering, research, agriculture, and design. It provided a space for knowledge transfer, project development, and international collaboration. The strong networking between academia, industry, and civil society was one of the event’s key highlights.

Next European Bamboo Expo: May 28–30, 2026 in Dortmund
Following the success of this year’s expo, the next edition is already scheduled: the European Bamboo Expo 2026 will take place once again in Dortmund, from May 28 to 30. Companies, institutions, and experts interested in participating as exhibitors or speakers can now apply.
