ROOTING: Bamboo in Latin America

ENRAIZANDO is a documentary that addresses the bamboo boom that Latin America, and particularly Mexico, is experiencing. Filmed in the year 2022, guided by the presenters Juani and Fran, founders of Escuela del Bambú, it is a roadtrip that covers a large part of this country, visiting the projects that are giving life to this bamboo fever, and getting to know its protagonists first hand. In 4 chapters of 23 minutes and with figures of great renown and quality in their craft and words, such as Jaime Peña – Arquitectura Mixta – or Lucila Aguilar – Lucila Aguilar Arquitectos – as interviewees, the documentary travels from the fields and communities where bamboo is produced, to the architectural offices in the big city where new large-scale projects are designed, always taking a great lesson from its protagonists. For any person or professional interested in learning more about this world, and also in getting into the human side of bamboo, this is a great audiovisual piece.

For the European Bamboo Expo, the first twenty-three min chapter of the Series of four chapters will be shown. This deals with the state of bamboo in the State of Chiapas, Mexico, and introduces the viewer in the communities that produce it, as well as includes interesting and warm interviewees who presents its constructive use -with incredible new touristic structures-, as well as its food use -preparing a kombucha with bamboo extract-.

The Bamboo School project is an international formation project and Bamboo Project Accelerator, which was born in Chile in 2019, and is now based in Chile and Spain. As a training project, it has conducted workshops and assisted socio-ecological local projects in Latin America. The School is oriented to valorize and promote bamboo as a relevant agent in forest communities, as well as a material with regenerative properties, addressing the development lines of training, research, dissemination and mentoring.
